“Jack Kibbie Day” Observed At Capitol

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Legislature took time out of its busy schedule Wednesday to honor a local lawmaker who was instrumental in bringing the community college system to Iowa.

Wednesday was “Jack Kibbie” day at the statehouse.

Last year, First Lady Christie Vilsack signed a proclamation declaring March 15th as “Jack Kibbie Day”. Senator Kibbie was a leader in the effort to create the community college system in Iowa 40 years ago.

A reception was held Wednesday afternoon at the statehouse to honor the Emmetsburg democrat and to celebrate four decades of community colleges in Iowa. Kibbie was also the keynote speaker at the Iowa All-Academic Dinner Wednesday evening in Des Moines for all community college academic all-stars.

On Friday, Senator Kibbie will attend the weekly Emmetsburg Chamber Coffee at the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College. The coffee will coincide with an open house for the Technology Education Center at Iowa Lakes. That event will take place from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Friday. The public is invited to attend.
