It’s Official: Iowa Great Lakes Are Frozen Over

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The frigid weather has finally caught up with the Iowa Great Lakes.

Kirk Ewen of Arnolds Park keeps track of the official freeze-thaw dates for the Iowa Great Lakes. He tells KUOO news West Lake Okoboji finally froze over completely today (Fri.), while East Lake has been totally covered in ice since December 1st.

Those dates are much earlier than a year ago when East Lake didn’t freeze over until December 14th and it wasn’t until Christmas Eve when West Lake was completely ice-covered.
