ILCC Trustees Approve Tuition Hike; Board Member Bud Kyle Resigns

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– It’s going to cost more to attend classes this fall at Iowa Lakes Community College.

The college’s board of trustees Tuesday set tuition for Iowa and Minnesota residents at 135 dollars per credit hour…an increase of seven dollars per credit hour currently. Mandatory fees were left the same, with adjustments made for fees for various programs.

Even with the increase, college officials say ILCC remains a bargain compared to four-year colleges and universities.

In other business, ILCC trustees voted to spend $47,700 to fix a drainage problem at the new Construction Technology Facility under construction at the Emmetsburg campus; and they approved a three-year contract for President Valerie Newhouse as well as a Master Contract for employees that includes a two percent pay increase. Employees will see a change in insurance with increases in deductibles and out-of-pocket costs.

And a long-time ILCC trustee announced his resignation from the board. Bud Kyle of Milford, who represents District Five, which includes the Iowa Great Lakes, announced he’s resigning effective today (Wednesday, May 19th). Trustees President Jan Lund says the board will appoint a replacement to complete Kyle’s term which runs through September of 2011. Kyle was presented with a plaque thank him for years of service.
