(Worthington, Mn.)– Residents in some area communities are being told to reduce their electricity use as the hot weather puts a strain on the availability and distribution of power.
The city of Worthington, Minnesota has issued a level 2 energy emergency alert after being notified by the Regional Transmission Organization saying the existing generation capacity is not expected to be enough to keep up with demand.
The city of Worthington, and some others in the region, have been generating their own power in order to help meet the increased demand.
They’re urging everyone to take steps to reduce electrical consumption like turning up your thermostat by a few degrees; and postponing the use of electrical appliances.
Worthington officials warn that if the increase in demand continues, they’ll be forced to issue a level 3 alert, which could result in rolling blackouts.
