Emmet County Awarded “Water Trail Grant”

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A project to construct low-impact access paths to the West Fork of the Des Moines River in Emmet county has been awarded a grant through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Water Trails Progam.

The Emmet county project will be getting 7,264-dollars…in addition to 6,400-dollars being put up locally. The project has a total cost of 13,663-dollars.

Bill Moreau, President of the Emmet County Water Trails Association, says the project will include the creation of trail heads, improving and creating access points, developing riverside camping areas, adding sanitary facilities as required, signage to let the public know where the accesses are located, providing water access to native prairie areas and historical archeological locations and providing informational kiosks at trail heads and educational locations.

Moreau says they hope to have the project completed in September, 2006.
