Eastern Iowa Crash Claims Life of Spencer Man

(Wilton, Ia.)– A Spencer man is dead following a fiery crash between two semi’s early this (Wednesday) morning in eastern Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says 39-year-old David Loerts was killed at 2:30 a.m. when his westbound semi was hit head-on by an eastbound truck that crossed the median on Interstate 80 near Wilton.

Loerts’ truck caught on fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other truck driver, 56-year-old Michael Morrow of Cherokee, was injured and transported to a local hospital.

A portion of the interstate was closed and traffic was diverted for a few hours.
