Early Voting In Dickinson County Seeing Large Turnout

October 23, 2026

(Spirit Lake)– Early voting in Dickinson county for the November 3rd election is experiencing a very high turnout. Early voting started October 14th and Jordan Moyer of the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office says the numbers are impressive…

“We had quite a few people on that first day you could actually vote in person. We had just shy of 400 people walk through last Wednesday, and it’s been pretty steady ever since. We’ve had at least 200 people every day. We’re currently at 1,789 people that have come in to early vote in person, and we have a total of 3,042 that have requested by mail or in person. We had 1,210 that were requested by mail. We’ve received 675 of those back, and then we’re still missing 535 but you do have until November 3rd at 8:00 pm on election day to get those ballots in.”

She says that’s easily on track to pass 2022’s numbers…

“In 2022 we had a total of 3,143 requests for absentee in the duration of absentee voting, and I’m not sure if back then, it’s changed quite a few times. At first it was 40 days and then it went to 29 days and now we’re at 20 days, so we’re still going to see a high number this year.”

Moyer also has a couple of reminders for voters…

“Just a reminder that we are past the deadline that we can mail out a ballot, which was this past Monday, and that also means you have to go through the same day voter registration process where you do have to prove your residency and your identity in order to register to vote between now and election day.”

Early, in person voting continues through November 2nd, the day before election day. In Dickinson county it’s taking place in the supervisor’s meeting room at the courthouse in Spirit Lake. Moyer says they’ll also be open Saturday, October 31st, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

For those returning absentee ballots on election day, November 3rd, Moyer says they’ll need to take them to the Auditor’s Office, NOT to the polling site.
