Dickinson County Nature Center Looking For Volunteers

April 21, 2026

(Okoboji)– The Dickinson County Nature Center is paying tribute to its volunteers and is putting out a call for additional people willing to help out as more of their facilities prepare to open for the season. Amy Heibult, Community Relations Coordinator, says volunteers play a crucial role in their operations…

“The volunteers are the lifeblood of who we are as a nature center. They’re the friendly faces that greet visitors when they come in, both at the Nature Center and Westport Schoolhouse. We’re looking for friendly people who can help greet visitors. Just provide general information about the nature center and the area, answer phone calls, and help with some of our gift shop sales. We’re also looking for volunteers at the Westport Schoolhouse who can welcome guests to the museum, share a little bit of information about some of the history and artifacts that we have inside the building.”

Heibult says you can be a volunteer with no prior experience…

“We have manuals that are provided at both locations and information prior to the beginning. We would love for volunteers to maybe volunteer with another person who’s familiar to get kind of introduced to the, to the volunteering and how we do things.”

If you would like to volunteer some of your time with the Dickinson County Nature Center, you can contact Amy Heibult at 712-336-6352 or stop by the Nature Center for more information.
