Dickinson Co. Supervisors Adopt Low Impact Development Components

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a recommendation from the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission in adopting revisions to the zoning and subdivision ordinances that incorporate low impact development standards.

It’s similar to standards already adopted by the cities of Okoboji and Spirit Lake.

Supervisors also reviewed a preliminary engineering report on a proposed urban renewal project in the East Okoboji Beach area. It will include street and drainage work in the subdivision. The study presented Tuesday identifies rights-of-way and possible obstructions that will have to be dealt with. It clears the way for a full-blown engineering report. The county will soon be sending out requests for proposals for that.

The project will utilize low impact development components. A special report on that aspect of the project has been completed, thanks to a grant from the Dickinson County Water Quality Commission.

The project is being funded by Tax Increment Financing. Once completed, streets in the subdivision will be turned over to the county for future maintenance.
