Dickinson Co. Supers Approve Re-Zoning; Purchase MainSail Building

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday voted four-to-one to approve a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to rezone some land just west of the Dickinson county fairgrounds from light industrial to residential.

Supervisor Marti Allen cast the lone no vote.

The land lies just outside Spirit Lake’s city limits.

The city had gone on record as being opposed to the change, saying it wants to annex that area in the future. It wanted the zoning to stay light industrial, saying that classification best fits the city’s long use plan for that area.

The supervisors also voted four-to-one to purchase the Spirit Lake MainSail building for 138-thousand dollars. Plans call for the structure to be demolished with the entire block to be used for parking for the courthouse.

The former County Attorney’s building, which was also on that block, was demolished earlier this week; the former County Engineer’s building will be the next to go.

Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche cast the lone no vote.
