Dickinson Co. P & Z Reviews Proposed LID Requirements

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Planning and Zoning Commission Monday reviewed amendments that would incorporate low impact development regulations into the county’s zoning and subdivision ordinances.

The amendments were crafted by a broad cross-section of members, including P & Z member Tony Weber. He told fellow commissioners Monday the document could be looked at as a work in progress, which could be fine-tuned as needed. Weber said the committee had been working on the matter since December.

Following some discussion, the Planning and Zoning Commission decided to move forward with the proposed amendments by holding a public hearing on them at their next meeting.

Following that, they’ll go to the board of supervisors, who will also hold a public hearing prior to taking any action.

As a result, Zoning Administrator David Kohlhaase said it could be about three months or so before the low impact development regulations would go into effect.

Several cities in the county, including Spirit Lake and Okoboji, have already adopted low impact development regulations in their zoning ordinances.
