(Spirit Lake)– Some changes could be coming for rural Dickinson county residents who drop-off their recycling items at sites in various towns.
The county has been making those sites available as part of a contract it has with H & H Recycling of Spirit Lake. Mike Hawn of H & H has told the county that it’s monthly rate will increase by 300-dollars if the county continues the drop-off program.
Under the proposal, the county is hoping the cities would allow rural residents to use their drop-off areas instead.
Supervisor Wayne Northey said Tuesday he’s already visited with Lake Park officials who indicated they would be in favor of allowing rural residents to use their site.
Fellow supervisor Mardi Allen said city officials in Terril told her they’d allow rural residents to use their site in exchange for 158-dollars a month from the county. But Northey said it wouldn’t be fair for some cities to get reimbursed and others not.
Following further discussion, the supervisors decided to visit with all other cities in the county. The issue will be brought back for further discussion at the supervisors June 10th meeting.
The curbside program for residents in subdivisions and along lakeshores would continue.
