Clay County Wreck Sends Two To Hospital

November 22, 2014

(Sioux Rapids)– Two people were injured in a single vehicle mishap Monday in southern Clay county.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 80-year-old Doris Pitzen of Storm Lake was northbound on Highway 71 about a quarter of-a-mile north of 435th Street when she fell asleep. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck the west shoulder. Authorities say Pitzen then over-corrected, causing the vehicle to go into the west ditch. It came to rest in a field.

Pitzen and a passenger, Phil Pitzen also of Storm Lake, were taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by Spencer Ambulance with unknown injuries.

Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2006 Pontiac driven by Doris Pitzen.

The mishap took place around 12:30 p.m.
