(Spencer)– A report of an assault late last week in Clay county has resulted in the arrests of two men.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report last Thursday evening stating that James Long of Spencer had chased Nathaniel Wolthuis with a metal pipe at a residence on Highway 18. Wolthuis was able to flag down a passing motorist who picked him up.
While taking their report, authorities discovered Wolthuis was wanted on a warrant out of Black Hawk county. He was taken to the Clay county jail pending extradition.
Spencer police were able to locate a vehicle Long had been seen in at 521 East Second Street in Spencer. After locating him, Long was arrested and charged with going armed with intent…a class “D” felony. A subsequent search resulted in authorities finding some methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. A more thorough search turned up seven bags of marijuana and more drug paraphernalia.
Long was also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver…a class “D” felony; a drug tax stamp violation…also a class “D” felony; possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Long is being held in the Clay county jail on bond of 59,425-dollars.
Long was also wanted on warrants by authorities in Woodbury and O’Brien counties.
