(Spencer)– An investigation into a hit-and-run crash that injured two people on a motorcycle Monday evening in Clay county has resulted in charges against a Spencer man.
Spencer police say it stems from a report of a hit-and-run they received shortly after 7:00 p.m. Witnesses reported a dark-colored SUV rear-ended a motorcycle as the vehicles were eastbound on Highway 18. The SUV then fled the scene.
The driver of the motorcycle, 30-year-old Brian Beck of Spencer, and a passenger, 19-year-old Krystal Plagman of Marathon, were ejected. They were transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital and were later life-flighted with serious injuries.
The SUV was located a short time later at the Country Villa Trailer Court just south of Spencer. An investigation resulted in the arrest of 57-year-old James Prather of Spencer. Prather was charged with operating while intoxicated and improper passing. He was booked into the Clay county jail.
Police say additional charges are pending as the incident remains under investigation.
Spencer police were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Fire Department and Spencer ambulance personnel.
