(Sheldon)– A four-vehicle collision late Wednesday afternoon in O’Brien county injured five people.
The Iowa State Patrol says vehicles driven by 25-year-old Gary Griese of Melvin, 40-year-old Nancy VanDyke of Sanborn and 53-year-old William VanOterloo of Sheldon collided at the intersection of Highway 59 and the west junction with Highway 18.
Griese was taken by ambulance to the Primghar hospital; VanDyke and two passengers in her vehicle, 10-year-old David VanDyke and two-year-old Jacob VanDyke, were taken by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital, along with VanOterloo. Information on the extent of injuries and conditions wasn’t immediately available.
Troopers say the collision involved a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Griese; a 1998 Ford Expedition driven by Nancy VanDyke and a 2005 Ford F150 driven by VanOterloo. All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene. No damage estimates were available.
Troopers say the vehicle Griese was driving struck the rear of the one driven by Nancy VanDyke, who had stopped for a stop light. The impact forced the VanDyke vehicle into the one driven by VanOterloo, with VanOterloo’s vehicle being pushed into a semi owned by Central Turf Farms of Lakefield, Minnesota. The driver of the semi, which was also stopped at the intersection, wasn’t injured.
The mishap took place around 5:00 p.m.
