April 29, 2026

(Spencer)– The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has released details into a fiery crash last week of a cement truck. It happened Friday in the 2300 mile of 280th Street, east of Fostoria. Authorities say 43-year-old Heath Clause of Sioux Falls was driving the 2016 Peterbilt truck when it left the road and caught on fire. The fire had been put out by the reporting party using a fire extinguisher. The Fostoria and Dickens Fire Departments arrived and mechanically removed Clause who was then transported to Spencer Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He was later cited for failure to maintain control and failure to use a safety belt.

The cement truck sustained an estimated $80,000 in damage.

The crash was reported around 2:14 pm Friday.
