(Jackson, Mn.)– A two-vehicle collision over the weekend in Jackson county has claimed the life of a mother and her three children.
The Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 5:37 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 880th Street and 590th Avenue in Enterprise Township. Authorities say a 1985 International semi pulling a tanker-trailer, driven by 25-year-old Jeremy Friesen of Comfrey, was eastbound on 880th Street and a 1994 Oldsmobile Sport Van driven by 34-year-old Penni Damon of Alpha was southbound on 590th Avenue when the two collided in the intersection.
Damon and three of her children who were passengers in her vehicle, 12-year-old Mandy Vandekieft, nine-year-old Cody Vandekieft and six-year-old Katie Vandekieft, were all pronounced dead at the scene.
No injuries were reported to Friesen.
The van was a total loss while extensive damage was reported to the semi-tanker.
The mishap remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, Jackson Fire and Ambulance, the Alpha Fire Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
