Car vs. Semi Crash Claims Hartley Woman

November 22, 2014

(Hartley)– A Hartley woman has died of injuries she received in a car-semi collision Tuesday in O’Brien county.

24-year-old Samantha Strait was killed after her vehicle collided with a semi on Highway 18.

Authorities say Strait was eastbound on Highway 18, just east of the junction with Highway 59, when she drove across the center line and struck the rear tires and axle of the westbound semi trailer.

Strait was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, 55-year-old Kevin Groen of Hartley, wasn’t injured.

3,500-dollars in damage was estimated to a 1994 Chevy Lumina driven by Strait with five thousand dollars in damage estimated to the semi trailer. No damage was reported to the semi tractor.

The Iowa State Patrol and Sanborn Fire and Rescue assisted on the scene.
