(Spirit Lake)– A local retailer is changing hands.
Shopper’s Supply stores in Spencer, Spirit Lake and Algona and Ace Hardware in Spencer have been purchased by Bomgaar’s.
Shopper’s Supply Owner Chuck Schmidt tells KUOO news they were looking at the possibility of expanding, but have found they don’t have the capacity to do it. He says they’ve been in talks with Bomgaars the past three months, and decided to go with their acquisition offer.
Schmidt says the acquisition is on a fast track. He says inventory will be conducted October 29th, with the acquisition being finalized October 30th.
For now, Schmidt says it will be business as usual at the affected stores. He says it’s his belief the newly acquired stores will be run separately from the other Bomgaars stores.
The Schmidt family has owned Shopper’s Supply since 1966. Chuck says they would have celebrated their 40th anniversary as owners next year.
Schmidt went on to thank the customers of Shopper’s Supply for their support over the years.
