Body Found In House Leveled By Fire

November 22, 2014

(Greenville)—The body of a man has been found in what’s left of a house that was leveled by fire early this (Thursday) morning in Greenville.

Firefighters from Royal, Webb, Dickens and Sioux Rapids were called to the Tim Mills residence at 1223 Jenkins Avenue around 6:00 a.m. Upon arriving firefighters found heavy fire coming from the house and a double stall attached garage. A neighboring garage and shed located to the north were also fully engulfed. A house just north of the Mills residence was saved.

Firefighters were eventually able to enter Mills’ residence but were unable to locate him. They had to back out of the home due to hazardous conditions.

Mills’ body was eventually discovered by investigators in the kitchen of the home. The body has been sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

David Schipper, Deputy State Fire Marshal, says it’s believed the blaze started in the garage attached to the home. He says the cause is still under investigation, and that additional details may be released later in the day tomorrow (Friday).

Firefighters were assisted on the scene by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Clay County Medical Examiner’s Office, Spencer ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
