(Okoboji)– The first Birding on the Green event with the Dickinson County Nature Center will be held on May 4th. Amy Heibult, Community Relations Coordinator with the Nature Center, talks about the event…
“So we’re excited to bring this program back again this year for the summer. So our first date is actually on May fourth from seven to nine. We’ll meet in the parking lot. And then from there we head out on golf court and look for birds and listen for different songs and calls. We’ll count as many species as we can see and hear, and then those numbers actually get reported back to general manager Brett Hetland of Brooks Golf, and that helps them maintain their Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary certification.”
Heibult talks about who can attend the Birding on the Green event…
“Everybody is welcome. It’s geared towards adults, but we also recommend if you have a teen or somebody who’s getting into birding, that’s learning. As long as they have an adult that can drive the cart with them, they’re encouraged to come and join us to.”
This program will be held monthly on Mondays through September. The dates are May 4th, June 1, July 6th, August 3rd and September 14th. You will meet in the Brooks Golf parking lot and the event will go from 7:00 am until 9:00 am.
