Arnolds Park Council Approves Geen Space Conservation Easement

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Meeting in special session Wednesday, the Arnolds Park city council unanimously approved a conservation easement for the green space area just east of the amusement park.

Messengers of The Healing Wind requested the easement in exchange for making a 500-thousand dollar contribution to the “Sustain Our Park” Campaign.

The easement, which will be in effect for perpetuity, prohibits any development from taking place in that area. The green space will continue to be owned by the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum, or Historic Arnolds Park, Incorporated.

Dickinson county has already signed off on the easement, and the state of Iowa is expected to do so soon. The city, county and state all had to approve the easement as they had rights of first refusal to the property in the event the park should fail to exist in the future.
