AP Council Extends Fire Contract With Center Grove Township

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Meeting in special session Monday, the Arnolds Park city council voted to extend a fire protection contract with Center Grove Township until July 1st, 2007. The extension is contingent on approval by the city of Okoboji.

The Arnolds Park city council had voted previously to terminate the current contract effective this coming July 1st, expressing concern over the Bridge’s Bay development currently under construction just east of the present city limits. Language was included in a developer’s agreement at that time that would have prevented that area from ever being annexed into the city. When it became apparent that extending infrastructure to the site would become an issue and the city was threatening litigation over the anti-annexation language, the developers opted to have the language removed…opening the possibility for the development to be annexed sometime in the future.

The council also adopted the budget for the upcoming fiscal year following a public hearing. It reflects a drop in the tax asking from $6.85 per thousand dollars valuation currently to $6.59. City Administrator Ron Walker credits a 27 percent increase in assessed valuations for the decrease in the tax levy.
