AP Council Approves Bridge Engineering Agreement

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park city council Wednesday evening voted four-to-one to approve a supplemental engineering agreement for the Hinshaw, or Linden Drive, bridge project.

The new agreement comes with a higher price tag due to an on-site inspector that’s needed for the project. It will cost the city an additional 150-thousand dollars. The specially-licensed inspector will have to come from outside the area, resulting in the additional cost.

Mike Koppert cast the lone no vote. Other council members voted in favor, saying the city has no other option.

Revised plans for the project resulted in the supplemental engineering agreement. Original plans called for a con-span bridge. But results of soil tests show such a design wouldn’t be possible. Instead, they’ve had to go with new plans calling for a structure with pile-driven supports.

A bidletting on the project is set for July 19th with construction to start this fall.

While the city itself is responsible for most of the engineering costs, the construction costs are being split between the city, county and state.
