A SW Minn. City Is Scrambling After Its Vet Clinic Announced It Will No Longer Board Stray Animals

August 18, 2026

(Windom, Mn.)– A town in southwest Minnesota is scrambling for answers on how to deal with stray animals. It comes after the only veterinary clinic in Windom announced it will no longer board or impound animals beginning this Thursday, August 20th.

The Windom Police Department says as a result, officers in that city will no longer be able to seize animals for impounding. A statement from the department says Windom police will still take appropriate actions when it comes to potential animal neglect or abuse along with continuing to address animal-related complaints requiring law enforcement intervention, along with other circumstances where an animal presents an immediate threat to public safety.

The statement goes on to say that the city of Windom is actively working on a potential solution.
