Authorities Say Many More People Heeded Advice This Time Around Compared To Last Month’s Blizzard

January 15, 2021

(Spirit Lake)– Authorities in the region say it appears more people heeded advice during this blizzard to stay home.

Law enforcement and rescue crews were kept extremely busy in the December 23rd storm rescuing stranded motorists. They say things have been very quiet so far, atleast, in that regard when it comes to this blizzard.

In Dickinson county, Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says there are some vehicles in ditches, but there have been no reports of anyone actually being stranded or anything like that…Ehret & Blizzard Update01

“Nothing too major. You know, a dozen or so cars in the ditch, I believe, around the county that we’re aware of and so forth. Nothing real major. Nothing like the storm back on the 23rd. Fortunately this one’s been a little tamer for us.”

Ehret says they’re continuing to urge everyone to stay put the rest of the day today (Friday)…Ehret & Blizzard Update02

“You know out there there’s some areas where the visibility isn’t too bad, but then it can very quickly change and be down to nearly zero in some places, so it just really comes and goes out there. So, you know, if you do just absolutely have to go out, give yourself plenty of extra time and drive slow and make sure you’ve got that winter kit in your car. But if you can just stay home that would be the best advice here for the next little while so we can get the snow to stop falling and the winds to settle down a little bit.”

Conditions are expected to gradually begin improving late tonight and even more so during the day Saturday once the wind subsides.
