(Des Moines)– Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced today (Wed.) her current proclamation of disaster emergency, which was to expire at midnight tomorrow (Thurs.) night is being extended through Wednesday, December 16th with minimal changes…
“Organized sports and recreational events, including bowling leagues, may resume for youth and adults but spectators are still limited to two per participant. The same two spectator rule that also applies to high school athletes will be extended to spectators for cheerleaders, band members, and others performing at high school sporting events. To ensure better consistency among restaurants, bars and other venues that serve alcohol, including casinos, last call for in person service will be at 10:00 pm.”
The Governor also today (Wed.) said today (Wed.) restrictions on elective procedures at Iowa hospitals will also be relaxed, going from the current 50 percent reduction to 25 percent.
She also said she’ll be calling on the legislature to require 100 percent in-person learning in schools…
“I think parents need to have the option to be in school. I think we need to do everything we can right now to get our kids back in the classroom and I believe the data supports that. I believe eventually we’re going to potentially be doing more harm than we are by keeping them out of school and I think the data every day continues to support that decision for a whole host of reasons. And we’ve seen great success. And I think, you know I lose sight sometimes of about the schools that are actually doing that so I need to commend probably 85 percent of our school districts across the state.”
The Governor also today said that based on current information, COVID-19 vaccinations at the state’s long term care facilities could start December 28th.
