State Of Iowa Reports Record High Number Of COVID-19 Related Deaths For Second Day In A Row

(Des Moines)– The state of Iowa is reporting a record number of deaths related to COVID-19 for the second day in a row.

Public Health officials say an additional 84 virus-related deaths were reported in the state for the 24 hour period ending at 10:00 am this (Fri.) morning. The state’s death toll now stands at 2,603. State officials say a majority of those deaths occurred in November, but are just now being reported.

2,901 new, confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 were reported as of this (Fri.) morning. The state’s 14-day positivity rate had dropped slightly, from 16.8 percent Thursday to 16.6 percent today (Fri.).

Locally, two more virus-related deaths have been reported in Dickinson county in recent days, with the county’s death toll now at 12. 16 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the county as of this (Fri.) morning. Clay county reported 27 new cases. The death toll in that county remains at four.
