Youth Programs At Lakeside Lab Receive Sizable Donation

July 06, 2020

(Wahpeton)– Youth and family programming being offered by Friends of Lakeside Lab is the recipient of a $1,500 donation from Jensen Real Estate in Arnolds Park. Lisa Roti, Executive Director of Friends of Lakeside Lab, says it will go specifically to their “Passport to Nature” program…Passport To Nature Donation01

“And because of donations from Jensen’s for example, and many other sponsors that have been terrific about helping with programs at the lab, we’re now going to be able to continue the family nature packets through the month of July.”

Roti says participation in the Passport to Nature program, which is free, has far exceeded their expectations. She says the program was started in early May as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic…Passport To Nature Donation02

“We did start out with 50 packets. The 50 packets were gone within the first morning of May 8th when we started it, and then by the end of May they were gone within the hour. And so we continued them in June based upon the demand and we moved the number of bags from 60 to 65 and at one of our last programs in June we did one on fossils and they were gone in 15 minutes.”

The free educational packets are available for pick up each Friday by 9:00 am on a first-come, first-serve basis at the stone gate entrance to Lakeside Lab on Highway 86 on the west side of West Lake Okoboji.

In addition, Roti says they’re continuing their Facebook Nature Challenge, along with their Facebook live sessions at 9:30 am on Fridays, and their self-guided treasure hikes. Maps for that are also available at the Lakeside Lab stone gate entrance.
