(Spirit Lake)– Tuesday’s announcement by Governor Kim Reynolds that she’s extending portions of a proclamation of Public Health Disaster Emergency to June 25th, 2020 is resulting in more changes on deadlines for paying property taxes and for motor vehicle and driver’s license transactions.
Dickinson County Treasurer Kris Rowley says you now have until June 25th, 2020, in which to pay property taxes without delinquent interest charges. She says no appointments will be available for payments, which can be made online at IowaTaxAndTags.org, by mail, or by dropping them off in the Treasurer’s drop box on the west side of the courthouse.
For motor vehicle transactions, Rowley says if your vehicle registration expired January 31st, 2020 or later, it will be considered valid until June 25th, 2020 without penalty. She says the 30-day deadline to transfer a vehicle purchased on or after February 1st, 2020 was suspended until the proclamation expires, currently June 25th, 2020. The 45-day deadline for driving with temporary plates on vehicles purchased after January 31st, 2020 was suspended until the proclamation ends as well.
And for driver’s licenses, Rowley says if yours expired on or after January 16th, 2020, until the disaster is lifted by the Governor, currently set for June 25th, 2020, your license/ID will remain valid. She says you may be able to renew online or qualify for a six-month extension on your current license.
