(Des Moines)– You can thank the “Super” El Nino weather system in the Pacific Ocean for the warm, wet weather Iowa’s seen so far this fall. That word from Iowa State Climatologist Justin Glisan…
“It’s the seventh warmest October and the 40th wettest October on record right now coming after the ninth warmest and fourth wettest September. Overall we are sitting at the fifth warmest and fifth wettest meteorlogical fall in the record keeping history of Iowa.”
Glisan said more rain and less snow is expected this winter…
“If you look at the previous events we typically see less snow across the Upper Midwest. We generally see more rainfall events, particularly in December but also more mixed precipitation events: sleet, freezing rain, snow”.
Glisan said the harvest and fall field work should not be severely impacted by the weather.
