(Spencer)– City employees in Spencer are getting a reward for exceptional workplace safety. The city council Monday evening voted unanimously to give each of them a $25 chamber gift card.
Jessica Wright, the city’s Human Resources Director, says they’ve set a record for going so long without having to take time off due to a work-related injury…
“So our days without loss time record was 505 days previously, and we are now over 600, we’re at 611 or so. That’s a citywide record for all time. Knocking on some wood here that we keep that going. We saw a drastic decrease in our work comp claims of about $96,000 less going into this next fiscal year, so we by far exceeded any of what we could have hoped for to bring our mod factor down. Every injury has a mod factor effect and so we had some claims fall off and our staff have been very diligent about following our safety protocols and policies. It doesn’t mean there’s no injuries but when they do get injured they’re not losing work time for that. They’re being very diligent and watching out for each other which often is the hardest thing to do but the most important is to watch for your co-worker.”
City council members expressed their gratitude to city workers and encouraged them to keep it up. City officials say funding for such incentives is already included in the budget.
