(Okoboji)– The city of Okoboji is making a change to its subdivision ordinance. City Administrator Michael Meyers told the city council last week it’s intended to simplify things and to make the process a little less expensive for developers…
“We are the only city in Dickinson county, we might be the only city in that state of Iowa, that defines a subdivision as two lots instead of three. State law says it’s three lots, so we are currently more restrictive than state law and essentially every other municipality in the state of Iowa. It makes doing very simple subdivisions very cumbersome and time consuming and expensive for a property owner or a prospective property owner and it was the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission on a 5-0 vote, or a 4-0 vote, to recommend this for approval.”
On a vote of 5-0, the city council approved the first reading of the change and on the same margin, voted to waive the second and third readings and adopted the revision.
