Iowa Remains On Track For Another Year Of Traffic Fatalities Under 300

October 16, 2026

(Undated)– Iowa remains on track for a reduction in traffic fatalities for the second year in row. Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says, however, that’s with still a couple of months to go in the year, along with the upcoming holiday season…

“So if we get a few good months here, if we can finish the year out good, we stand to be able to hit that under 300 mark for two times in a row which would be great to do, as we talked about before. Last year we were at 260 fatalities which last time was 100 years ago for that. Right now we’re at nine more than we were last year at this point. We’re still 34 less fatalities than we were on our five-year average, so we stand in that ground where it could go either way for us, as long as people pay attention to their driving and we can be good, defensive, drivers, we could possibly make it to under 300 again, so that’s what we’re asking people to do.”

Krull says we can all do our part by driving the speed limit, buckling up, not driving impaired and by obeying that no hands law by not using that cell phone or any other electronic device while driving.
