(Spencer)– Veteran’s Day at this year’s Clay County Fair will take on a renewed emphasis in conjunction with America’s 250th anniversary. Clay County Fair Manager/CEO Jason Brockshus says patriotic events will be taking place that day throughout the grounds…
“We have a Veteran’s Day parade, we have a Veteran’s Day program in the ballroom at about 11:00 in the morning as well as a patriotic tribute in the afternoon. We have other patriotic acts on stages throughout the grounds, but in the grandstand there will be Jimmy Fortune, Lee Greenwood. Lee Greenwood’s iconic song God Bless The U.S.A released in 1984, which he actually was at Clay County Fair in ’84. He came back in ’93 so it’s going to be fun to welcome him back. Some of you may have been there so come out and see him again. Jimmy Fortune is an iconic performer, was with the Statler Brothers, also has been at the fair many times.”
Brockshus says it was somewhat of a fluke that they were able to make arrangements to bring Lee Greenwood back…
“The board challenged me to reach out and I kind of thought really? Like I don’t know what our odds will be, he’s busy, he’s not touring. So we extended an offer through our talent buyer and we were lucky enough to have him agree to do it. So he is not technically touring anywhere. You’ve seen him on social media and on t.v. He’s been doing a lot of shows this year but we’re lucky to get him here in Spencer.”
Veteran’s Day at the Clay County Fair will take place Monday, September 14th with free gate admission that day to all active and retired military personnel.
