Work Kicking Into High Gear On Heavily Traveled Road Along East Side Of East Lake Okoboji

August 24, 2026

(Spirit Lake)– Expect some delays if you’re going to be traveling anytime soon on a heavily traveled road on the east of East Lake Okoboji. Dickinson County Engineer Jeff Rose says work is kicking into high gear on a re-surfacing project on County Road M56 from Highways 9 & 71 in Spirit Lake to County Road A34, commonly referred to as the “Camp Foster Road”…

“The culvert work is done. What crews have been doing now is working from the south end milling the road surface down. Once the milling is done and the widened portions are put in place, they’ll do a new overlay over the top of the road.”

Rose says motorists in that area need to plan for delays…

“Yes, while they’re doing the milling and paving operations they’ll be running a pilot car. There will be one lane of traffic in certain areas but it will be controlled by a pilot car, so we just ask the public to just follow the pilot car and be patient and wait for it.”

Rose says the project is expected to take at least another four weeks or so.
