(Spencer)– Flagfest in Spencer is now less than a week away, with the festivities getting underway Friday, June 12th. Events that day will include the annual Spencer Tail Twisters fundraiser, a park party, pet parade, kid’s pedal pull, touch a truck, kiddie train, Knights of Columbus BINGO, Spurs and Speed at the Clay County Fairgrounds and Movie in The Park.
Blake Goss of the Spencer Chamber says Saturday, June 13th, will feature a 5K fun run/walk, farmer’s market and the Flagfest parade at 11:00 am…
“The parade usually draws in over 4,500 people so when you’re in town make sure to visit our local businesses, grab a bite to eat right after the parade. We’re at 130 entries right now so. It’s a longstanding and good parade and a wide variety of floats and entries. Always nice to see the creative side come out.”
Events Saturday afternoon include activities at the Spencer YMCA…
“They’ll have the swimming pool open, dodge ball and inflatables, or you can go down to the aquatic center and have a free family swim for the remainder of the day from 6:00 until 7:00. At 12:30 at the fairgrounds they’ll have a mutton bustin’ where you ride sheep for the kids, that is free. And then at about 4:00 again they’ll start ticketing for night two of the rodeo and the races. At 5:00 Mike C will be doing BINGO at 513, and this has been wildly popular lately. I think he’s found a retirement gig on that. But if you haven’t done it yet, go out and play. It’s a lot of fun, a lot of goofy prizes to win. Old Iron Company with the Grand Cruise comes out to see the old vehicles, they’ll start staging, usually pretty close, right after the parade, but they’ll be there all evening. Arts On Grand will have the LD3 Band performing at 6:00 and then the YP will have their street dance, that starts at 9:30, and they are featuring Punching Pandas.”
Events Sunday, June 14th include the flight breakfast, kayak racing, an open house at the Parker Museum, the Municipal Band Concert, and a special event at Riverside Cemetery.
