Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club’s Annual Adult Fishing Seminar Is June 9th

June 04, 2026

(Arnolds Park)– Everything you ever wanted to know about fishing will be the topic of an event next week in the Iowa Great Lakes. Dean Jacobsen of the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club says they’ll be holding their adult fishing seminar Tuesday, June 9th from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. He says this will mark the 3rd year for the event…

“Our first one was two years ago and we had about 30 people there. We had one last year, we had about 50 people there. And this year, we’re going to change venues because the venue we had it at last year is not available and we’re going to go upstairs at The Ritz June 9th.”

He says a number of stations will be set up…

“We’ll have one station that talks to them about the different kinds of rods from ultra light to the heavy rods and why you use them in certain situations. Shorter rods, longer rods, and what the difference is. One that talks about the reels and how they’re different, open face reels, bait casters, casting, all kinds of different reels you can use and why you use those in certain situations. And then of course you get the line. There’s so many kinds of line, it’s confusing. We’ll talk a little bit about what situations you use what line in. We’ve got one guy visiting about lures, how to set up a slip bobber and all the different kinds of lures and when to use them.”

Jacobsen says they’ll also teach everyone how to tie knots, and where the best places are to fish in the Iowa Great Lakes…

“Where the public docks are at around the lakes. We’ve got a nice map of that. And the seminar comes with pizza and refreshments.”

The cost is $25 per person, and those planning to attend need to pre-register. We’ve included information on how to do that with this story at Explore Okoboji-dot-com. The seminar is limited to those 21 and over.
