Reel Fun for the whole family is Seasons Center’s free family fishing event. It will be held on June 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 and Stephanie Pohar, VP of Marketing and Fund Development for Seasons Center, says this will be a great family event…
“Just going to be a fun afternoon for families to come out. Whether you’re fishing for the first time or you are a seasoned fishing enthusiast, we want everyone to come out and enjoy the afternoon and just be together and have fun.”
Pohar says there will be prizes available for the kids that day too…
“So the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club is providing free rod and reel combo set for each child that comes in registers. Obviously that’s while supplies last. But a great little takeaway for them. We’re going to have some other prizes. We’re going to have a few other giveaways. We’re going to have some educational stations. So there’s going to be a lot going on, a lot for people to do, and just a great way for families to spend some time together and enjoy the outdoors.”
Pohar explains how fishing is good for mental health…
“Fishing can be a great stress reliever. It can be a self-care tool for people. It can increase your self-esteem, your confidence, your skills, your patience. It can improve mindfulness, your focus, your concentration. And then just being out in nature in general is great for enhancing your focus, your memory, your attention span, lowering rates of depression, increasing your energy levels. So a lot of things tie with fishing and the outdoors and mental health.”
