(Spencer)– A petition has been filed triggering a special election for the Ward 4 seat on the Spencer City Council. The seat was previously held by Donavan Wunschel but was left vacant after he was elected Mayor. The council filled the position by appointing Duane Bates. However, a petition has now been filed contesting that, forcing a special election. It will be held April 7th .
Interested candidates need to get at least 50 signatures on a nomination petition. An affidavit of candidacy will also need to be completed. That information needs to be filed with the Clay County Auditor’s Office by 5:00 pm Friday, March 13th.
