Crash Injures Four After Driver Attempts To Go Through Construction On Hwy 9 Near Lake Park

September 05, 2025

(Lake Park)– Authorities say people are continuing to drive around barricades on Highway 9, which remains closed from the Highway 86 intersection to the Osceola county line for construction. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says the latest incident took place a little before noon Thursday, resulting in a crash that injured four people.

Authorities say 64-year-old Sara Hernandez of Worthington, Minnesota was driving a Buick Encore westbound when she went off the paved roadway through a gap in the concrete construction and then hit another section of concrete. The vehicle then rolled, coming to rest on its driver’s side.

Hernandez and three passengers had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Lake Park Fire Department. All sustained minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.

Hernandez was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to obey a traffic control device for driving around road closed signs.
