(Milford)– The final community meeting for RAGBRAI in Milford was held Wednesday evening. Riders will make their way into Milford July 20th where they’ll spend the first night. Mayor and RAGBRAI Committee member Steve Anderson says logistics, including campgrounds, are all finalized…
“We’ve got one up north, kind of in the Grape Tree, Perkins area, that’s a main campground. We’ve got another main campground which is going to be on the grass runway, Memorial Park, in that area, and then one in the southern part of town which is kind of where the old Milford Motors area used to be. Those are the main three and then we’ll have people camping at all the city parks.”
Anderson says shuttles will be in operation between the campgrounds and the downtown area. And when it comes to that, he says there will be limited access to some areas…
“From 8th Street up to about 11th Street; from Highway 71 over to about M Avenue. There’s going to be some restrictions in there, there’s going to be some shutdowns where people won’t be able to get in and out. We’re also going to have some shutdowns up on A-34 because the bikers are coming in. So we’re working on and got a lot of the routes for people to get in and out figured out. Those property owners will be notified on what the plan is for them getting in and out how to get around while the bikers are coming and going.”
Anderson says a detailed schedule is now set as well…
“The main campground information center will open at 6:00 am. We’ll start shutting down roads around 7:00 am. The vendors that will be in the area for this will be, they’re supposed to be in place by 10:00. We’ll start running shuttles around Noon. The DJ at the stage will start around 2:00 pm, that’s also when the beverage sales is scheduled to start. At 4:00 pm we’re going to have, the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association will be at the main stage. They will go until 6:00 and then at 6:30 Rock A La Carte will be on the stage and they will go until 8:30 and then at 9:00 The Schmidt Brothers will come on and they will run until 11:00 and that’s kind of when everything will wind down and we’ll get everybody back to their camps and we’ll call it a night.”
Estherville, the second overnight stop, is also finalizing its preparations.
