On A Split Vote, Milford City Council Opts To Keep Hwy. 71 4 Lanes Through The City

April 15, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– Highway 71 through Milford is going to remain four lanes. A motion to adopt a resolution to convert the road from four lanes to three was defeated at Monday evening’s city council meeting. Council members Dave Worshek and Kyle Mohni voted in favor and council members Shane Hoffman, Doug Frederick and Chris Hinshaw voted against. Mayor Steve Anderson thanked council members for their diligence…

Now, Anderson says they’ll work with the Iowa Department of Transportation on some safety enhancements including replacement of traffic lights, which the city will be responsible for…

Anderson says those things won’t take place until 2030, when the D.O.T re-surfaces the highway through Milford. He adds that while the state will cover the cost for the new pavement for the four lanes, the city will be responsible for the cost of re-surfacing the parking areas along the highway.
