Spencer Flood Serves As Inspiration For Song & Upcoming Festival

February 20, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Singer/songwriter Eli Alger of the group “Faster Horses” has written a song about the Spencer flood. It’s simply titled “The Flood”. Alger says he was inspired to write the song when he and his band opened for Trace Adkins at last year’s Clay County Fair…

“When we were opening for Trace I was sitting in the back of the crowd getting ready for our walk-on song and they were showing the footage of the flood and all the people giving their stories and stuff. I’m looking around not only was that touching but the people around me were just either, it was so emotional. There’s like grown men crying and I’m sitting up there in the back of the crowd like what happened in this town? We had been on the road and I’d had my nose to the grindstone, I still do, and it just wasn’t on my radar. So in that moment I decided we were going to give a benefit concert to the town of Spencer and do what we could to help the people that lost their homes.”

Alger says “The Faster Horses Flood Relief Festival” will be held this coming June 21st at the Clay County Fairgrounds, which will mark the first anniversary of the devastating event…

“It’s going to be a time to rejoice, be glad and to celebrate how far we’ve come. It’s also going to be to benefit of course those who lost so much during the flood. Yeah, the goal is to get people their houses back man.”

Additional details on the June 21st event will be forthcoming. You can hear the song here:
