(Spirit Lake)– With halloween comes a reminder for everyone to be extra cautious this (Thurs.) evening. Spirit Lake Police Chief Shane Brevik…
“I would recommend first of all with this weather that we’re having make sure your kids are dressed warm tonight, and any sort of lighting and reflective material is nice, it certainly helps as we get into dusk and into the dark for motorists and everybody to be able to see your children walking from house to house.”
Brevik says motorists need to be especially vigilant…
“We always ask that as a motorist, drive slow anyway but especially on nights like tonight. Really be on the lookout, really be paying attention because yes, kids have a tendency to run back and forth and dart out into the street. We certainly don’t want any bad things to happen tonight.”
Brevik says there’s one area of Spirit Lake in particular that sees a lot of foot and vehicular traffic on Halloween…
“From 26th Street all the way down into new developments, all the way down to 38th Street and then from like Sunner Avenue to Hill Avenue is really congested. We really ask people to be on the lookout especially if you’re driving on Keokuk, Hill Avenue, 28th Street and any of those kind of right there in the area of the schools. We get a lot of foot traffic with that brings a lot of car traffic, so.”
Trick or treating for Spirit Lake and most other communities in the region will be taking place this (Thurs.) evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
