Emerald Ash Borer Now Confirmed In Emmet County

October 17, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– Emerald Ash Borer has now been confirmed in Emmet county. Officials with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship say samples were collected from a declining ash tree in Amstrong earlier this month and were sent to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for confirmation.

Emmet was the only remaining county in Iowa where the tree-killing pest had not yet been confirmed.

Emerald Ash Borer is a non-native, wood-boring insect that threatens all species of ash trees. Officials say landowners with ash trees on their property should consider a course of action for at-risk trees which are generally those within a 15-mile radius of a known infestation.
