(Hull)– Sioux county authorities say it appears a stabbing incident and house fire in Hull may be related.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded around 3:30 pm Monday to the intersection of 5th Street and Division Street in Hull after getting 911 reports of a disturbance. Deputies discovered three people were involved and that two of them had stab wounds. They were taken by ambulance to the Sioux Center Hospital. A male suspect was taken into custody. Authorities haven’t released his name.
A short time later deputies reported seeing heavy black smoke coming a residence at 1429 Division Street, a short distance from the original incident. Fire Departments from Hull and Rock Valley extinguished the fire, believed to have started in a bedroom. Authorities suspect it may have been intentionally started before the disturbance by the man who was taken into custody.
They say the incidents are still under investigation and that there’s no danger to the public.
***UPDATE: Sioux county authorities have identified the suspect in the case as 28-year-old Jorge Gomez-Badillo of Hull. He was charged with two counts of attempted Murder, first degree burglary, second degree arson, interference with official acts, possession of cocaine, possession of cannabidol (THC oil), and possession of drug paraphernalia. There is the possibility of additional charges pending the ongoing investigation.
