(Spencer)– A Spencer woman was seriously injured Thursday evening when a vehicle collided with the bicycle she was riding east of Spencer.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Carissa Gittins of Laurens was driving a 2021 Nissan Rogue westbound in the 2300 mile of 340th Street when she became blinded by the sun and collided with bicycle, ridden by Ruby Alsman of Spencer. Alsman was seriously injured and was taken to Spencer Hospital. She was then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
The Spencer Police Department, Spencer Hospital ambulance and Dickens Fire and Rescue assisted on the scene.
The incident took place shortly after 7:00 pm.
