Clay County Collision Claims A Life

September 12, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Fostoria)– A crash Wednesday in Clay county claimed the life of an Everly man.

The Iowa State Patrol says 54-year-old Douglas Nielsen of Everly was driving a 2006 Honda motorcycle eastbound in the 1500 block of County Road B24 near Fostoria when he collided with the rear of an eastbound 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by 51-year-old Amber Champine of May City. Troopers say Nielsen was thrown off the motorcycle upon impact and was then struck by a westbound 2009 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 62-year-old Kenneth Ulatowski of Sheldon. Nielsen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Fostoria Fire and Rescue and Spencer Fire and Ambulance assisted on the scene. The collision took place around 8:45 am.
